What The Experts Say

Leading scholars in the field of Conditional Dessert Theory have weighed in. Their conclusions are unanimous.

"In my 35 years of monitoring school dinners, I have never — not once — witnessed a child receive pudding without first consuming the meat. The data is unassailable."

Dr. Margaret Thistlewaite
Chair of Cafeteria Sciences, University of Nottingham

"The meat-pudding prerequisite is as fundamental to British dining as gravity is to physics. You wouldn't try to have gravity without mass, would you? Same principle."

Prof. Gerald Rumsworth III
Director, Oxford Institute of Gastronomic Logic

"I tried to skip the meat once in 1983. I was denied spotted dick for three consecutive Tuesdays. I have never made the same mistake again. Never."

Sir Reginald Pudsworth
Former Schoolchild, Now Professional Meat Eater

Observational Data from the Field

Our field researchers have been embedded in school cafeterias, family dining rooms, and Sunday roast establishments across the United Kingdom since 1979. Their observations paint a consistent picture:

  • 97.3% of children who ate their meat received pudding without incident
  • 0% of non-meat-eaters successfully obtained pudding through legitimate means
  • 2.7% of meat-eaters lost pudding privileges due to "talking in class" infractions
  • 6 napkins confiscated per week on average for concealed meat contraband
  • 1 child once tried to barter homework for pudding. Request denied. Rule is the rule.

Frequently Raised Objections

We've heard them all. We've debunked them all. The rule stands.

"But I'm vegetarian!"

The 1979 mandate is clear and makes no provision for dietary preferences. The Tofu Exemption Request of 2016 was formally rejected. We suggest reconsidering your relationship with meat. For the sake of pudding.

"What if I hide the meat under my mash?"

Post-2003, all plates are subject to Infrared Napkin Scanning and Subsurface Mash Probing. Our detection rate is 94%. The remaining 6% were suspicious but we couldn't prove anything. They know what they did.

"Can I have pudding first and then eat my meat?"

Absolutely not. The Meat-First Pudding Protocol (MFPP) is strictly sequential. Temporal inversion of the eating order violates the fundamental principles of dinner causality. You eat the meat. THEN the pudding. This is non-negotiable.

"Does feeding the meat to the dog count?"

No. The dog has not earned pudding. You have not eaten the meat. No one gets pudding. Additionally, the dog is now under investigation for being an accessory to meat fraud.

"Isn't this just a line from a Pink Floyd song?"

It is also a line from a Pink Floyd song, yes. But coincidence does not diminish scientific truth. Newton didn't invent gravity — he discovered it. Similarly, Pink Floyd didn't invent the meat-pudding axiom. They merely documented it for the historical record. On vinyl.

"You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds! Stand still, laddy!"
